8. Berlin Workshop Human-Machine Systems

Theme:

The human in the center of technical systems

Date: October 7-9, 2009

Venue: Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Announcement

To put the human with his or her abilities and needs at the heart of the considerations in the development of technical systems is a claim, which is often made.

The implementation of this requirement is still difficult. Thus, it is still not self-evident that technical systems are manageable or usable, nor exclude anyone from its use, or are fun to use. This is not least due to the fact that is not always clear what constitutes a "human centric" design of technical systems.

The 8th Berlin Workshop Human-Machine Systems gives the opportunity, to discuss problems and results of human-machine systems engineering under the aspect of a human-centered design. The basis for this should be - like in the seven previous workshops in Berlin - both basic scientific and practical contributions. A particular focus will be on the domains of transport equipment (railway, automotive, aerospace, marine engineering), process management, production technology, process engineering, software engineering, telecommunications and technical documentation. But of course, contributions from other domains in which these issues gain importance, such as medical technology, are welcome.

Again, the 8th Berlin Workshop Human-Machine Systems will offer a complete English track allow international experts to participate.

Main topic areas of the workshop

  • Support and assistance systems
  • Concepts for multimodal Interaction
  • Emotion and Intuition as dimensions for design
  • Design of Human-Technology Interaction of ambient systems
  • Development and application of digital human models
  • Prospective design of human-technology interaction
  • Novel approaches for training and further education

Program

The program will consist of

  • Invited lectures,
  • Workshop talks (lectures from research and development with discussion),
  • Special sessions (moderated discussions on the main topics of the conference),
  • Poster session presenting current research topics.
